This June we are going to Cancun, Mexico for three days – with the kids too for an amazing family vacation! I’ve been there before but my kids never have been out of the country and my husband has been to the Caribbean but not to Mexico so I am very excited to take them!
Brayden is 9, Boston is 5, Weston is 3 and when we go on the trip Kallen will be 4 months. Brayden has been on a plane before at age 3 months and 2 years but the others have not. I am very excited about the trip yet nervous because I want them all to be comfortable, not too scared and also kept busy in the airport and on the plane.
Here are a few helpful tips of what I am doing to help make travel a little more easier traveling with three kids and a baby. Maybe these tips can help you too!
1. Carry Ons
Each kid will have their own small back pack for their carry on. It will have a book (chapter book for my oldest), their tablet, coloring book and crayons and a small jacket in case the plane/airport is too chilly. Snacks will be bought after we go through airport security.
2. Diaper Bag
This of course is a necessity when going anywhere with an infant. I will have two outfit changes for Kallen and at least one outfit change for Boston and Weston as well as pull ups for the both of them. Boston has never had an accident but I’d rather be safe than sorry in case he can’t make it to the potty on time in the plane or off while we are in the airport or when we land and heading to hotel. Weston is in the process of being potty trained right now and wears pull-ups at night. I plan on bringing baby rattles for Kallen, his formula, bibs, blanket, disposable diapers since we won’t be bringing cloth with us there and his bottles and of course EXTRA BINKYS! I also bought a pair of baby headphones for Kallen for the airport and airplane while wearing him in the Tula or Boba so he doesn’t get too overly stimulated.
3. Early Flight
The day we leave our flight is at 7 AM sharp. So we will be having an early bedtime to wake up at an early time to be at the airport by 6 AM. I wanted an early flight because we only have one layover lasting 45 minutes and when we land in Cancun it will be 1:10 PM. That way we aren’t tired from traveling and can still have the rest of the entire day enjoying the beach, shopping and enjoying a nice family dinner.
4. Prevent ear pain
When flights take off and when they land your ears can “pop” and this can be painful for kids. Infants can suck on their binky, bottle or breast to help ease this pain during take off and landing. Children can suck lollipops, chew gum or sip through a sippy cup with a straw lid. You can bring the sippy cups and after you’ve gone through security purchase the beverage for it before boarding the plane.
We are very excited for our trip and can’t wait for this family adventure! I hope these tips help if you are traveling by plane with your little ones.
