One of my favorite meals to eat on a Sunday is FRIED CHICKEN! Yes! Delicious, crispy, hot and flavorful fried chicken that is tender and juicy in every single bite. My husband absolutely loves it as well as our kids. It is such great comfort food and I remember loving fried chicken as a kid when my mother and grandmother made it and yes it was finger licking good. I’ve concocted my own recipe over the years because of my love of cooking. I love trying new spices in fried chicken. My favorites are garlic, thyme and yes even rosemary!
You may think thyme and rosemary in fried chicken? Trust me it isn’t just your normal roasting chicken or turkey seasonings. This gives your chicken amazing and unique flavor. TRUST ME. This recipe is for A LOT of chicken for a BIG Sunday dinner meal so make sure to invite some guests over who want to eat. So let’s get down to the good stuff of what you will need.
- 8 chicken thighs
- 12 drum sticks
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons of salt
- 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 3 tablespoons dried thyme
- 2 tablespoons dried Oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- flour for coating
- vegetable oil for frying
Put your chicken in a bowl and pour in your buttermilk. Put your bowl in the fridge and let the chicken set for about 30 minutes.
Heat your oil in your deep fryer or a deep frying pan until hot. In deep fryer I heat oil to 350 degrees.
Remove chicken from the fridge and add your seasonings and mix the chicken, buttermilk and seasonings all in the bowl.
Dip each piece of chicken into the flour and place into the oil. I like using a deep fryer because all sides of chicken are coated instead of a frying pan where you may need to turn the chicken. You want to cook the chicken until the juices run clear and the chicken is a beautiful dark brown.
You will love how delicious this chicken turns out and your family will thank you for this delicious recipe. It is one of my favorites to make for family dinner on Sunday and during the summers for a picnic! ENJOY!!
