Ever since I was little I remember having a dream catcher in my room. I was always fascinated with dream catchers especially with having some Native American in my blood. They were created as a symbol of protection for children and babies. The webbing is to be that of a spider as an Indian tribe found spiders to be symbolic in protection and comfort. I on the other hand are creeped out by spiders! Haha! However dream catchers are beautiful.
While this is not your authentic handmade dream catcher, this is easy to make and fun for your kids to do as a craft and have in their bedrooms! My boys want one after I made one for my two little ones Kallen and Landen’s joint nursery suite.
You don’t need much to make this beautiful dream catcher. You can make it however you want. You can add flowers to it, beads, feathers, whatever! Make it as simple as you want or add more to make it however special you want it to be. Let’s get started!!
You will need:
- 5 inch embroidery hoop
- embroidery/cross stitching floss or yarn
First you want to pick your color of yarn or floss to wrap the entire loop to cover it.
Then take your ribbon however long you want it and tie it to the bottom of your loop. You can then take your yarn and floss and do the same. Put as many colors on as you want to make it vibrant and colorful.
After you have finished your ribbon, yarn or floss you then will add your webbing. I knotted my floss on one side of the hoop and then just wrapped it around to create a cool web effect/design. Then knotted it and cut off the excess.
This craft is super easy to do and very fun to make! Make it a fun DIY for a family craft night so each kid can have their own! Happy Crafting and Sweet Dreams!
